Ruger Mark III

With Governor O'malley proposing some ridiculous gun laws (Like banning semi-automatics, limiting magazine capacities to 10 rounds and requiring a state permit for purchasing pistols AND rifles), I decided to start buying the guns I've wanted for so long.   Last week I picked up this Ruger Mark III.  Though I paid for it weeks beforehand, it took over three weeks for my application to be processed through the State Police.  I'm told that this process usually takes a week, however everybody and their brother is thinking like me, and buying their guns while they still can.

The pistol is a heavy barrel, auto-loading, .22 caliber target model.  I plan to enjoy a lot of target shooting at the range and squirrel hunting with this pistol.  It is as accurate and reliable as they come. I took it hunting this morning but unfortunately did not see any squirrels.  I am eager to get to the range with this one.

Like you, I have been purchasing handguns over the past month. Our country sure feels wrong right now.

That is part of the reason I am very happy with my move to Alabama. Since my I was able to purchase a Browning Hi-power 9mm with only my Alabama driver's license- after passing the FBI instant background check. I have to wait six months for the concealed carry permit.

Our Sheriff was also one of the first to state that he would not uphold any federal directive that infringe on the 2nd amendment.

They have also called Obama the greatest gun salesman in history. It is insane right now- gun stores are always pack and cannot keep inventory. Ammunition has also become scare- I cannot find any online. It is strange that DHS is buying large quantities.

It is the same up here. Chaos. I lucked out and happened to be in a gun store, just after they received a shipment of ammunition. I was able to pick up 1500 rounds of .22 LR.

I can't believe the prices. I used to get a 500 brick for 7.99 on sale. What did you pay for 1500?

Frank:

I paid $150 for Federal 22LR HV. Though I recently bought a bucket (literally) of Remington 22LR HV which contained 1400 rounds, for $70.

Ammo is scarce up here and everywhere else, so I'm buying it when I see it; which is rarely.

Since you've had this for a few months now, I'm curious what your impressions of it are.

My father has an old Belgian-made Browning Challenger and it's a great pistol. I'm looking to pick one up myself, but since the old Challengers are hard to find, I'm trying to decide between the Ruger Mk III and the Browning Buckmark. The Ruger seems like it's slightly easier to strip for cleaning.

I haven’t shot this pistol as much as I thought I would have, but I’ve put about 1000 rounds through it over the course of 3 or 4 trips to the range. I love this pistol; but to be honest, it’s the only pistol I own. I haven’t had a single jam or misfire. It’s incredibly easy to clean (I use a bore snake) and even when you take it apart; it’s not a huge endeavor. Overall; no problems and I love the pistol.
